Fitzroy Primary School is situated in a vibrant and culturally diverse inner city area. The school population is currently around 120-130 students who are drawn from local public and private housing, as well as a number living outside the area, but whose parents work in the immediate vicinity.Eighteen languages other than English are represented, including Turkish, Slav Macedonian, Vietnamese, Arabic, Chinese and Hmong.
Our school offers an environment that is safe, supportive and enjoyable for all children. It encourages warm, personal and friendly relationships based on mutual respect. The staff is committed to actively promoting acceptance, tolerance, cooperation and equality for all. They share a high expectation of students in all areas of learning. Policies and programs are designed to reflect the individual needs and strengths of the children.
The school provides a comprehensive, integrated curriculum in the key learning areas of English, Mathematics, Health and Physical Education, Studies of Society and Environment, Science, Technology and The Arts and LOTE (Italian).Specialist programs for all children include Information Technology, Library, Music and Physical Education. Classroom programs are further supported by Reading Recovery and Early Intervention, Integration, ESL and Multicultural Education staff and programs.Performing arts groups, choir, individual music lessons (piano and violin), daily breakfast and play lunch clubs and extensive excursions are examples of programs targeting the particular needs and interests of our students. |
