School Council
Our School Council provide an important conduit for the school to engage meaningfully with our community, parents, staff and students.
School Council is the governing body of the school made up of parents, teachers and members of the community. School Council meets to discuss and decide on a range of issues relating to school governance. It is supported by the work done by its subcommittees. The Fitzroy Primary School Council has nine members.
The council has four committees – Education, Buildings Grounds and Environment, Finance and Fundraising. Each committee meets regularly and meetings are open to all parents and carers.
French Bilingual subcommittee
This subcommittee works in partnership with the French Bilingual Association to lead the establishment of the school’s French Bilingual Program. By setting a clear vision for growth of the program in the coming years, the subcommittee supports the school and provides local families, as well as families from the French community across the Northern and Western suburbs, the opportunity for children to be immersed in French language and culture throughout their Primary School years at Fitzroy Primary School.
Education subcommittee
This subcommittee oversees the development and review of school policies relating to teaching and learning, student welfare and school operations.
Buildings and grounds subcommittee
The Buildings and Grounds subcommittee group takes responsibility for maintenance and development of the school buildings and grounds to enhance it’s profile in the community.
Finance subcommittee
The Finance subcommittee considers budget submissions in the light of Council policies and priorities and makes recommendations to Council. In addition, this subcommittee monitors the school’s budget processes, spending and income.
Community Engagement and Fundraising subcommittee
The Community Engagement and Fundraising subcommittee’s main role is to build and strengthen relationships within the local community, seek new fundraising opportunities and establish Fitzroy Primary School as the preferred school for local families to attend.
