Capital works project update
This Friday, ROAM architects will be at school to meet with staff and students. The aim of the meeting is to gather various perspectives from across the school regarding teaching and learning, future growth, cultural diversity and community engagement. Our Junior School Council and School Captains are really looking forward to the opportunity to share their ideas and represent their classmates.
Some guiding questions will be:
- What do you love most about Fitzroy PS?
- When you think about great learning, what is important to you?
- What are some challenges that the school faces in the future?
- What are some improvements that the school could make to deliver the best educational outcomes for your child?
- How does the school celebrate diversity and promote inclusion in the community?
Representatives from the School Council are now in the process of gathering perspectives from parents and carers across the community to report back to the architects on Friday.

Active schools program launch
On Monday 19th April, we welcomed the Acting Premier, James Merlino MP, Richard Wynne MP and Tayla Harris to our school as they launched the Active Schools program and announced that Fitzroy Primary School will receive $30,000 to enhance our existing physical education program. This initiative will enable us to upgrade our facilities, purchase sports equipment, strengthen our engagement with local sporting clubs and access coaching expertise.

Capital works project update
This week I met with the VSBA, ROAM Architects and a DET regional representative to discuss the capital works project. Project milestones and key program dates were outlined, as well as tasks that are completed as part of the Asset Management Plan (AMP) phase 2. In phase 2, master planning and design will continue through to November with community consultation taking place this term. Architects from ROAM will be meeting with me during the school holidays for a site inspection and to plan upcoming consultative meetings for parents/carers and staff. Once finalised, these dates will be communicated through Compass, the calendar and in future newsletters for any interested parents who wish to join the conversation about the project. After the master planning phase has been completed and approved, tender processes and contracts take over before construction begins. With that in mind, it is anticipated that construction will commence in approximately 12 months time if the planning and tendering phrases run according to the current schedule. I look forward to working with the architects from ROAM in the next important phase of the project.
